Wingstop, a Dallas-based national chain, has chosen Southfield as the perfect setting for its first Michigan location. The new restaurant, located at 25110 Evergreen just north of the Lodge freeway, is slated to open in the last week of October. The Lawrence Technological University Women’s Basketball Team joined thousands of participants in the annual Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk in downtown Detroit on Oct. 13. The walk raised $483,870.
The Lady Blue Devils wore pink in proud support of the fight against breast cancer while walking with survivors and helping to raise awareness against this disease that affects one in eight women. These fund-raising walks have helped saved more than four million women in this country. read more
Over 19 million Americans have been victims of identity-related fraud in the last two years. To help combat this serious issue, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Detroit and Eastern Michigan, along with GreenPath Debt Solutions, Cintas Corporation, and Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP), will sponsor a “Secure Your ID Day” on October 20. The event, which will take place at 26777 Central Park Blvd. from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., will offer document shredding, cell phone donation, computer hardware and electronic device recycling, and hard drive destruction. Over 150 participants joined together for the first Lawrence Technological University (LTU) ‘Almost-Home’ Coming Rescue Run on September 23. The event, benefiting Southfield’s Almost home animal shelter, featured a four-mile race and a one-mile walk. Dogs were welcome. LTU Cross Country Coach Eric Green won the race with a time of 24:25.
The race kicked off a week of Homecoming activities, including a disc golf tournament, powder puff football, quidditch cup competition, a concert, comedy show and car show.
Lawrence Technological University (LTU) debuted men’s and women’s cross country teams this fall, opening the season at the University of Detroit Mercy Tommy Titian Invitational in Northville on September 8. read more

Clinton Distinguished Lecturer on “How Great Communities are Conceived and Built”, a topic derived from his new book, Principles for Urban Retail Planning and Development.
The Southfield City Centre Advisory Board commissioned Gibbs Planning Group to conduct a Retail and Hotel Market Analysis earlier this year. The results showed that the Southfield City Centre District can support an additional 645,000 square feet of retail and restaurant development, generating up to an additional $240.7 million in gross sales revenue, growing to $252 million by 2016.
