Over 19 million Americans have been victims of identity-related fraud in the last two years. To help combat this serious issue, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Detroit and Eastern Michigan, along with GreenPath Debt Solutions, Cintas Corporation, and Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP), will sponsor a “Secure Your ID Day” on October 20. The event, which will take place at 26777 Central Park Blvd. from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., will offer document shredding, cell phone donation, computer hardware and electronic device recycling, and hard drive destruction. Additional support for the event is provided by Etkin Equities and Fox 2 Detroit.
Cintas will take up to three paper bags or cardboard boxes of sensitive papers for shredding at no charge. Additional bags or boxes can be shredded at a fee of $10 each, with proceeds benefiting the BBB Educational Foundation. GEEP will host a free collection of used cell phones, desktop PCs, keyboards, monitors, laptops, mice, televisions, printers, hard drives, cameras, clocks, speakers, radios and DVD and VCR players. Proceeds from used cell phones will also benefit the BBB Educational Foundation. GreenPath Debt Solutions will provide on-site certified counselors.
